What UAB tax is made of
A UAB pays tax in two stages: first on salaries, then on profit and the dividends paid out of it.
The director's salary
The director is employed on a contract, so the salary is taxed as employment income: 20 / 25 / 32 % income tax with the personal allowance, 12,52 % social and 6,98 % health insurance, plus a 1,77 % employer contribution.
Corporate tax
Remaining profit is taxed at 17 %, or 7 % for a small business under 300 000 € of revenue. For the first two tax periods the rate can be 0 % where the owners are individuals and there were no reorganisations.
Dividends
Dividends paid out carry 15 % income tax and no social insurance, so the overall burden depends on how much is taken as salary and how much as dividends.
Questions about UAB tax
What taxes does a UAB pay?
On salaries: income tax, social and health insurance and the employer contribution. On profit: corporate tax. On dividends paid out: 15 % income tax. VAT applies on top if the company is registered for it.
How is UAB corporate tax calculated?
On taxable profit, which is revenue less allowable deductions including salaries and social insurance. The rate is 17 %, or 7 % for a small business up to 300 000 € of revenue, and it can be 0 % for the first two periods.
How are dividends taxed?
At 15 % income tax, withheld and paid by the company. The profit behind them has already been taxed at the corporate rate, so the overall burden depends on which rate applied.
When is a UAB better than an MB?
When you need more than ten participants, plan to raise investment or sell shares, or employ staff. On tax alone an MB is usually cheaper, because member drawings carry no employer contribution.
Can UAB accounting be automated?
Yes. fyn connects your bank accounts, collects sales and purchase documents, prepares the VAT figures and reminds you about payment deadlines, leaving very little manual work.
